The Clio Award was awarded for Ogilvy & Mather London’s provocative anti-female genital mutilation (FGM) campaign, “It Happens Here”, for 28 Too Many.
In total, O&M London collected a Grand CLIO, 2 Golds in Out of Home and Design, 6 silvers in Out of Home, 6 silvers in Print for 28 Too Many “It Happens Here’. The agency’s TV ad for Dove, “A Mother’s Body” also picked up a Silver in film.
Hoden Ali Warsame, an FGM survivor herself, accepted the Grand Prix on behalf of 28 Too Many and said: “I am delighted to accept this award. These powerful images point out that FGM is not only happening in far-away places. It could be your neighbour, a girl at school with your children or someone you work with.”
Gerry Human, Chief Creative Officer of O&M London, who led the creation of “It Happens Here,” added: “Thank you CLIOs. I hope these awards inspire even more people to reach out and help 28 Too Many in their brave fight against this appalling crime inflicted on young girls across the world.”
28 Too Many was also named ‘Advertiser of the Year’. Hoden Ali Warsame collected the award and commented; “Previous winners have been huge global organisations like Nike and Google. We are a humble UK-based charity who are reliant on volunteers. But we dream big. We want to change the world.”
The 56th Annual Clio Awards was held in New York at American Museum of Natural History.
