James is Coley Porter Bell’s Executive Creative Director and is responsible for imagining and delivering the agency's creative ambition to build, evolve and design brands that people care about. James believes in working closely with the Creative Directors and creative team to continually develop the best skills and understanding of the world we are designing for today and beyond.
He’s fascinated with how brands are wrestling with digital transformation and how they are continually evolving to keep up with today's exciting pace of change. James believes this challenge can be solved by leveraging the power of brand design in combination with neuroscientific insight to provide the valuable techniques that enable brands to succeed.
Before joining the team at Coley Porter Bell, James has worked in the design and creative industry in both brand and digital agencies for over twenty years, and has seen a huge amount of change during that time. After joining a start-up agency in the 90’s and putting brands online for the first time, James joined world renowned brand agency Wolff Olins where he learnt what it took to build brands that are different. James went on to join the brand experience agency Rufus Leonard where he worked with some of the UK's most well known brands including Lloyds Bank, Scottish Widows, Odeon, Premier Inn and more.
Alongside the day job James is involved with the DBA’s 2020 mentorship programme, using his career experience to advise and guide other creative people in our industry.
Outside the office James enjoys cycling and running in leafy Hertfordshire and is regularly spotted circling St Albans on his 5k route. His whole family are avid movie fans, and love nothing more than settling down together to a blockbuster at the end of the working week.
